💡 The Rule

A common noun names any person, place, animal or thing in general. It does not begin with a capital letter (unless it starts a sentence): city, river, doctor, bridge.

A proper noun names one specific person, place, organisation or event. It always begins with a capital letter: Multan, Dr Rania, Microsoft, Eid.

Quick test: Is it a specific, one-of-a-kind name? Capitalise it. Is it a general category? Do not capitalise it.
